Dakota Johnson joined Lily Allen on Saturday Night Live in an unannounced performance, stepping into the role of “Madeline,” the mistress at the center of Allen’s new song of the same name. Johnson, 36, appeared in a sheer lace teddy by Bode paired with a sequined duster, mostly obscured behind a screen as Allen performed. The styling was deliberate, restrained, and suggestive without tipping into spectacle — a visual echo of the song’s subject matter.
Midway through the performance, Johnson delivered the spoken-word section of the track, addressing Allen directly. “Madeline” addresses Allen’s estranged husband, actor David Harbour, and the collapse of what had been described as an open marriage. The real-life “other woman” was later identified as Natalie Tippett, a costume designer who met Harbour while working on a film in New Orleans in 2021.
Allen, 40, has not shied away from reclaiming the narrative. She referenced the scandal on Halloween by dressing as Madeline, the fictional character turned symbolic stand-in. In February, reports confirmed that Allen and Harbour, who married in 2020, were separating. Allen filed for divorce in September.
