DC Studios has released its first teaser for Supergirl, a brief but pointed signal of where the James Gunn–Peter Safran era intends to steer the franchise. The full trailer lands Thursday, December 11, but the early footage already sets the tone: stripped down, sharp, and anchored by Milly Alcock.
Alcock steps into the role of Kara Zor-El following her cameo in 2025’s Superman. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl marks the second major feature under the new DC leadership, and—if the studio’s confidence is any indication—the one they’re betting big on.

The film arrives June 26, 2026, with a cast that leans prestige and character-first. Alcock leads alongside Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Jason Momoa stepping into the chaos as Lobo.
Gunn has been vocal about Alcock’s casting. Speaking on The Howard Stern Show in September, he called it “the best bit of casting I’ve ever done,” later adding she’s “absolutely stunning in the movie.” Coming from a man rebuilding an entire cinematic universe, it lands like an early endorsement—and a challenge.

The story pulls directly from Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s 2022 limited series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Nogueira’s adaptation follows Kara and a young alien girl, Knoll, on a cross-galactic pursuit of Krem after he murders Knoll’s father. It’s a revenge odyssey, a coming-of-age story, and—if the teaser is any sign—a cleaner, more focused direction for DC’s long-fractured film slate.
The cape has officially been handed over. Now it’s on Alcock to fly.
