Emma Watson Banned From Driving After Fourth Speeding Offence

Emma Watson won’t be behind the wheel for a while. The Harry Potter alum was banned from driving for six months after racking up her fourth traffic offense in under two years.

Watson, 35, was clocked doing 38 mph in a 30 mph zone on a restricted road in Oxford last July. The incident was captured by a speed camera and processed without fanfare—just a quiet guilty plea by post in March. She skipped the five-minute sentencing hearing this week at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court.

Alongside the ban, Watson was fined £1,044, with a 28-day window to settle the tab.

This latest violation comes on top of three prior driving offenses in 2023 and early 2024, which added nine points to her license. The July 2024 speeding charge pushed her over the limit, triggering the automatic suspension.

At the time of the incident, Watson was behind the wheel of her Audi S3—reportedly the same car that police later had to tow after she left it parked illegally while grabbing lunch with her mother.

She’s currently pursuing a doctorate at Oxford, a quieter chapter following a two-decade run in the public eye. Watson rose to fame playing Hermione Granger across all eight Harry Potter films, from 2001 to 2011. The franchise is being rebooted as an HBO series, with 11-year-old Arabella Stanton stepping into the role of Hermione when the show drops in 2027.

In an odd bit of timing, another Harry Potter name landed in the same courtroom just moments later. Zoë Wanamaker, 76—who played broomstick instructor Madam Hooch in the first film—was also handed a six-month driving ban for speeding in Berkshire last August. She, too, had nine points on her license before the offense and was hit with the same £1,044 fine.

Neither actress appeared in court.

Two bans. Two fines. One franchise. The Ministry of Magic never had to deal with DVLA.
