Four years is a long silence in television. Long enough for a cult drama to become a cultural institution — and for its young cast to evolve into bona fide movie stars. Now Euphoria returns, possibly for the last time.
The ensemble reunited in Los Angeles this week for the premiere of the HBO series’ third season, with Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi leading a red carpet that felt less like a TV launch and more like a homecoming for a generation-defining show. The new season arrives Sunday, ending one of the longest gaps between instalments in recent prestige television.

Since the show’s explosive early seasons, its cast has scattered across Hollywood’s upper tier. Zendaya, now 29, has balanced blockbuster dominance — Dune and Spider-Man — with smaller, riskier projects, while returning to her Emmy-winning role as Rue, still navigating addiction and now entangled with a dangerous drug debt.
Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie reappears in a storyline reflecting the internet economy of modern fame, reinvented here as an adult content creator. Off-screen, Sweeney’s ascent has been equally swift, headlining commercial hits and studio dramas alike.
Jacob Elordi arrives with perhaps the most dramatic transformation. Once the show’s volatile high-school antagonist Nate, Elordi now carries awards-season credibility following an Oscar nomination for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, alongside high-profile turns in Wuthering Heights and The Narrow Road to the Deep North. The teen drama that launched him now meets an actor operating firmly in prestige territory.

Creator Sam Levinson, also present at the premiere, struck a cautious tone about the show’s future. Speaking recently, he confirmed there are “no plans” for a fourth season, though he stopped short of declaring a final farewell. The production, known for its meticulous visual language — elaborate costumes, stylised cinematography and marathon shoots — has always demanded total commitment. For now, the focus remains on finishing this chapter correctly.
Season three also carries emotional weight. Levinson confirmed the new episodes honour Angus Cloud, whose death in 2023 left a visible absence within the cast. The storytelling, he said, aims to “keep him alive.”
Returning alongside the core ensemble is Hunter Schafer’s Jules, now navigating art school and complicated adult relationships, while new additions include Natasha Lyonne, signalling a tonal expansion as the characters age out of adolescence.
Whether this is the end or simply another reinvention, Euphoria arrives older, heavier, and fully aware of its cultural footprint — a show that grew up alongside its audience.
