Gemma Collins Tricks Fans With Fake Wedding Photo for April Fools

Gemma Collins has pulled off a classic April Fools’ stunt, posting a wedding-day snap that had fans convinced she had tied the knot—only to reveal it was all a prank.

The 45-year-old reality TV star, who first rose to fame on The Only Way Is Essex, shared a photo of herself in a wedding dress on Instagram, captioning it as a secret marriage to fiancé Rami Hawash, 50. “I didn’t marry as the GC, I married as the girl @rami_hawash_ knows pre fame,” she wrote. The post described a room “filled with love” and implied that stories of the nuptials had begun circulating.

Fans and celebrity friends quickly joined the joke. Comedian Seann Walsh commented, “It was my pleasure to walk you down the aisle,” while John Grimes of Jedward chimed in: “It was such a beautiful day… loved being your flower boys and when Victoria Beckham gave us all a Jepic dance.”

Gemma and Rami’s on-off relationship dates back to 2011, with an initial proposal in Christmas 2012 and a split in 2014. They reunited in 2020 after Gemma’s split from TOWIE co-star James ‘Arg’ Argent, and in 2024 she announced they were engaged again, planning an actual wedding later this year. In typical GC fashion, she’s aiming for multiple celebrations, including ceremonies in the UK and abroad, each with its own dress.

Her private life hasn’t been without struggles. Gemma recently opened up about the toll IVF has taken on her relationship with Rami. Speaking on her new Sky series Four Weddings And A Baby, she told Dermot O’Leary, “My relationship was obviously taking a bit of a hit, I was trying to have a baby—my whole world just fell apart… You’re in my home. It’s what people don’t see. I was broken.”

Gemma is already stepmother to Rami’s seven-year-old son Tristan. She has also publicly discussed considering surrogacy or fostering, citing her own mother’s childhood experience. She has low AMH hormone levels and suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which affects fertility, and has experienced three miscarriages—her first in 2012, though she didn’t speak about it publicly until 2020, with two more losses following that year, including a pregnancy with ex James Argent’s child.

Through it all, Gemma continues to maintain her signature blend of openness and showmanship—whether sharing personal trauma or pranking millions of fans with a fake wedding.
