James Gunn isn’t handing out golden lassos just yet.
The internet lit up last week with whispers that Adria Arjona—best known for Hit Man—was in the running to play Wonder Woman. Fans zeroed in on one detail: Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, had recently followed her on Instagram. That was all it took to launch a wave of speculation.
But Gunn’s not buying the narrative.

“I follow Adria on Instagram,” he told Extra. “But everybody came out like, ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman.’ She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way—but I followed her years ago. She was in a movie I made in 2016.” That film was The Belko Experiment. “We’ve been friends since then,” Gunn said. “People just notice this stuff now.”
Fair enough. Still, the Wonder Woman project is alive and quietly moving forward. Gunn confirmed earlier this year that the Amazonian warrior will return—not in Paradise Lost, the prequel series for HBO/Max, but in her own standalone film. A script is in the works. No director announced. No casting confirmed.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav even name-checked Wonder Woman in a May 2025 earnings call, lumping her in with Superman, Batman, and Supergirl as essential pillars of DC’s next phase. Gunn agrees—mostly.
“I think that’s accurate,” he said. “I think he got that from something I said. I wouldn’t say only those four, but they’re incredibly important. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are. We’re working on the other two.”

Wonder Woman, clearly, is in that second category. As of now, the role remains uncast.
Gal Gadot famously portrayed Diana Prince in the Snyder-era DC films, including Batman v Superman, both Wonder Woman movies, Justice League, and a few post-credits cameos. But when Gunn and Peter Safran took over the reins, Gadot’s third film was shelved. A reset was in motion. And now, the question is wide open: who steps into the boots next?
It’s not Arjona. Not yet. But Gunn didn’t rule it out either.
“She’d be great,” he said.
That’s all fans needed to hear.
