Jenny McCarthy Opens Up on Devastating Health Struggle That Affected Her Eyes and Teeth

Jenny McCarthy has spent the past year navigating a string of health crises that left her teeth falling out and unusual growths appearing on her eyes. In a recent interview with People, the 53-year-old actress detailed a series of infections that required nine surgeries in her mouth alone.

“One infection turned into another and another, and then I had these growths show up on my eyeballs,” McCarthy explained. “My teeth were falling out, implants falling out.” Doctors eventually traced the problem to a deep bone infection after she chipped her jaw, and she spent months on antibiotics and restricted to soft foods.

Despite the ordeal, McCarthy maintained her characteristic candor. She shared a holiday card photo with her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, noting her trim frame was due less to diet than to months of limited eating and stitches in her mouth. Even after the photo, she underwent two more surgeries. “Every time we thought it had cleared up, it came back again,” she said, describing the cycle of pain and swelling in her jaw alongside the eye growths.

Now, she reports a turning point. “I’m able to chew again,” McCarthy said, adding that she feels ready to return to normal life and holiday traditions. She and Wahlberg plan to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas together in Chicago, cooking and enjoying a quieter holiday after a year dominated by medical treatments and conflicting work schedules.

McCarthy expressed excitement at the prospect of finally enjoying familiar family dishes, including the French’s green bean casserole both she and Wahlberg grew up with—a modest tradition carried forward into their combined households.

After a year that tested her resilience and patience, McCarthy is looking forward to stability, family, and meals she can actually eat—proof, in her words, that she’s finally past the storm.
