Marcello Hernández Puts Sabrina Carpenter Dating Rumors to Bed

Marcello Hernández is done playing telephone with gossip. The Saturday Night Live star addressed the swirling chatter that he’s romantically linked to Sabrina Carpenter—and made it clear: they’re friends, nothing more.

On the January 26 episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Hernández, 28, explained the truth simply. “I’m in a relationship with a Dominican girl. She’s an architect. She’s unreal. She went to Yale,” he said. “Sabrina’s awesome, she’s really funny and cool. She’s great.”

That girl is Ana Amelia Batlle Cabral, with whom Hernández has appeared on red carpets—from the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere in July to The Phoenician Scheme after-party in May—cementing the real-life romance that has nothing to do with viral sketches.

The speculation traces back to SNL’s sketch “Domingo,” which quickly went viral. Carpenter’s involvement—first as part of a bachelorette party storyline to the tune of her song “Espresso,” then arresting Hernández in character at a 2024 concert—fueled the rumor mill. She reprised her cameo at the SNL50 celebration and again last October, reinforcing the public perception of a connection that exists only in comedic performance.

Hernández speaks highly of Carpenter’s comedic chops, praising her instinct and willingness to lean into the absurd. “The Domingo thing was big, and she was all about it and it was so cool,” he said on the podcast. “Sabrina’s really down to clown. She’s down to think of something funny. She’s an actress… They’re so good, the young actors.” It’s a friendship forged in sketch comedy, amplified by virality, and nothing more—Marcello Hernández has no interest in letting rumors rewrite reality.
