Sheer Boldness: Miley Cyrus Frees the Nipple While Promoting Something Beautiful

Miley Cyrus isn’t just promoting a new album—she’s staging a full-blown return to form. On June 4, she stepped onto the New York City streets in a sheer black Ludovic de Saint Sernin gown, signing autographs in full view, black underwear visible beneath the fabric, sunglasses on, hair in a high bun, gold at her neck. It was unmistakably Miley—part rockstar, part provocateur, no apologies.

The appearance came days after the release of her tenth studio album, Something Beautiful, a record she says was born from chaos and built with precision. It’s her most psychedelic work yet, drawing visual and sonic inspiration from Pink Floyd’s The Wall—but filtered through her own lens of pop culture, fashion, and heartbreak.

“We really leaned in,” Cyrus told Harper’s Bazaar, citing a “heart-first attachment” to the 1982 film that shaped the album’s tone. The concept: turn the isolation and madness of The Wall into something more glamorous, more personal, more hers.

And she pulled it off. Something Beautiful folds together trippy rock production with stripped-down, confessional lyrics. It’s a concept album disguised as a pop record—raw in places, sleek in others. Miley says the songs carry “healing sound properties,” each track reflecting a different phase of life, even the brutal ones.

“The nastiest times of our life do have a point of beauty,” she said. “They are the shadow, the charcoal, the contrast. You can’t have a painting without it.”

That philosophy isn’t just for show. In a recent live preview of the album, Cyrus reflected on the wildfire that destroyed her Malibu home in 2018—an event that also torched the last embers of her marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth.

“When my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down,” she said. “I think what I would have told my younger self is to appreciate those darker times, because they are only leading you into the light.”

Now 32 and dating musician Maxx Morando, Miley seems unbothered by what’s behind her. She’s looking straight ahead—past the ashes, through the spotlight, and into something stranger and more sincere.

And in true Cyrus form, she’s doing it with the lights on and the veil off.
