Scarlett Johansson Breaks SNL Record, Becomes Most-Hosted Female Star in Show’s History

Scarlett Johansson closed out Saturday Night Live’s 50th season the way she started nearly two decades ago—live from Studio 8H, in control.

At 40, Johansson now holds the record for the most SNL hosting gigs by a female performer, logging her seventh turn and edging past longtime regulars Tina Fey and Drew Barrymore. Her latest appearance, the season finale on May 17, wasn’t just another night at the desk—it was a line in the show’s long history.

She first hosted in 2006, and over the years dropped in across the timeline: 2007, 2010, 2015, 2017, 2019. Always game, always smooth. In between, she popped up for cameos—never too far from the frame.

Opening the night, Johansson led a parody of Billy Joel’s Piano Man alongside cast members Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, Mikey Day, and Chloe Fineman—a soft pat on the back to the institution she’s now a part of.

Later, she took on sketch duties like a pro—news anchor here, panel moderator there. No gimmicks, no stumble. Just presence.

Bad Bunny handled music. Two sets: Nuevayol first, Perfumito Nuevo with RaiNao after. Both cuts from his album Debí Tirar Más Fotos. The vibe was loose, unforced—just how SNL likes it when it gets the chemistry right.

For the record books, Alec Baldwin still holds the all-time lead with 17 hosting gigs. But on the women’s side, it’s Johansson at the top now. Quietly, consistently, she’s become part of the building.
