Amazon’s long-gestating Tomb Raider television series has locked in its star. Sophie Turner will take on the role of Lara Croft, with filming slated to begin in 2026.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, already on board as creator, writer, and executive producer, will now share showrunning duties with Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines, Good Behavior). Jonathan van Tulleken (Shogun, Top Boy) will direct and executive produce.

“It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving,” Waller-Bridge said in a statement, praising Turner as “formidable” in the role.
Turner, best known for Game of Thrones, follows Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in portraying the globetrotting adventurer on screen. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many,” Turner said. “They’re massive shoes to fill… but with Phoebe at the helm, we’re in safe hands.”
The project comes out of a broader deal between Crystal Dynamics, Story Kitchen, and Amazon MGM Studios to expand the Tomb Raider franchise into both series and films. Legendary Television is also attached.

Vernon Sanders, head of global TV at Prime Video, called Lara Croft “one of the most recognizable and iconic video game characters of all time,” adding that Turner’s take will aim to balance the character’s legacy with new adventures.
The series is executive produced by Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins for Wells Street Productions; Chad Hodge; van Tulleken; Crystal Dynamics; Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson; Michael Scheel; and Legendary Television.
