Sydney Premiere Sparks Debate Over Model’s Sheer Red Carpet Look

Isabelle Mathers turned heads at the Wicked premiere in Sydney on Sunday, stepping onto the red carpet in a gown that left very little to the imagination. At 25, the Australian model and influencer—boasting 2 million Instagram followers—wore a sheer black dress with minimal lace covering her chest and hips, leaving her slim frame on full display.

The reaction online was swift. “You don’t need to be naked to be pretty,” one user wrote under her event photos. Others questioned the dress code, noting the premiere’s PG audience: “It’s lovely… but it’s not the Met Gala,” and “How is that appropriate or classy?” Critics pointed out the disconnect between the delicate lace and the black underpants, suggesting the ensemble leaned closer to lingerie than evening wear.

Mathers’ gown featured spaghetti straps and a plunging neckline, hugging her figure before flaring into a mermaid hem. She paired the look with bronzed makeup, a nude lip, and loose brunette waves cascading down her back.

Bold fashion choices are nothing new for Mathers. In September, she made headlines for her outfit at her father’s wedding, where she again stole the spotlight. Wearing a form-fitting satin and lace gown by New York designer Danielle Guizio—white in photos but described by her as “baby pink”—she sashayed in front of the camera as her partner, model Harri Musumeci, watched.

The wedding itself was low-key: the bride in a knee-length floral dress, her father in khaki chinos and an unbuttoned linen shirt. Yet Mathers’ style, provocative and unapologetic, once again became the story.
