Hilary Swank, 52, Announces Third Pregnancy Three Years After Welcoming Twins

Hilary Swank has another addition on the way. The Oscar-winning actress, 52, has announced she is pregnant with her third child, three years after welcoming twins with her husband, Philip Schneider.

Swank revealed the news in a social media video featuring her family dancing with glowsticks taped to their bodies. As the clip progresses, the lights draw attention to her growing baby bump. The caption offered a characteristically understated announcement: “A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December.”

The Million Dollar Baby star gave birth to twins Aya and Ohm in 2023, when she was 48. Schneider, also 52, is the children’s father. Her latest announcement has put the spotlight on the realities of pregnancy in the early fifties, when natural conception becomes increasingly uncommon and medical considerations take on greater importance.

Dr. Kameelah Phillips, an obstetrician-gynaecologist, described pregnancy at 52 as “extremely rare”, noting that most women in this age group are approaching or have entered menopause. However, she explained that IVF can make pregnancy possible even when ovarian function has declined, provided the uterus can support it.

Phillips also highlighted the potential complications associated with pregnancy at this age, including gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, diabetes and an increased likelihood of a caesarean section. Women in this situation typically require specialist monitoring and high-risk obstetric care.

Swank has previously spoken openly about becoming a mother later in life. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning following the arrival of her twins, she reflected on how years spent building her acting career had shaped her approach to parenthood.

“I think for me being a parent who is on the older side, the beauty in it for me has been that I had the opportunity to dive deep into this dream of being an actor and now I can dive deep into this dream of being a mom because I’m not pulled in any other direction,” she said.

For Swank, motherhood arrived after years of pursuing another ambition. Now, three years after the birth of her twins, the actress has announced that her family is set to grow again.
