Kim Kardashian is now one of the most recognisable women on the planet. In 2009, however, she was still capable of getting starstruck by Katie Price.
That is the detail fans have seized on after an old Kardashian tweet resurfaced online, showing the future billionaire reality star excitedly spotting Price and her then-husband Peter Andre on a flight from New York.
“Omg Katie Price AKA Jordan and her husband Peter are on my flight home from NYC,” Kardashian wrote at the time.
The exchange is a neat snapshot of two careers at very different stages.
Kardashian was already appearing on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which had launched the previous year, but her global celebrity status was still ahead of her. Price, meanwhile, was one of Britain’s biggest tabloid stars, having built a career as a glamour model, television personality and entrepreneur under the name Jordan.
Price apparently missed the original message, but came across it years later.
In 2017, she replied to Kardashian’s old tweet: “Awe that is so cute! Thank you Kim #flashback”.
Fans have now dug up the exchange again, with the unlikely piece of social media history being branded “iconic” as Kardashian’s transformation from American reality star to global celebrity puts the original message in a very different light.
Kardashian’s profile accelerated dramatically in the early 2010s, particularly following her relationship with Kanye West, whom she began dating in 2012 and married in 2014. Her business interests subsequently expanded far beyond reality television, helping turn her into one of the most commercially powerful figures in entertainment.
Price’s career took a different route. Her marriage to Andre ended shortly after the original Kardashian tweet, with the couple splitting in 2009. She continued building a television and business career in Britain, remaining a fixture of the celebrity press.
The latest resurfacing also comes with an odd footnote involving Price’s current husband, Lee Andrews. Andrews has previously been reported to have claimed that he had met Kardashian, sharing images on a business account that appeared to show the pair together.
There was one problem: the photographs were later identified as AI-generated, and there is no indication that Andrews and Kardashian have actually met.
Which leaves the original 2009 encounter as the genuine Kardashian-Price crossover — and, for once, the internet has managed to dig up something that is actually more interesting than the fake version.
