Mel C had a little help from an old friend when it came to saying “I do.”
The Spice Girls star married model Chris Dingwall over the weekend in the UK wearing a custom-designed Victoria Beckham wedding gown, but the dress wasn’t the first Beckham creation she wore for the occasion.
Before the lakeside celebration in Cumbria, Chisholm and Dingwall had already legally married in Australia. With only days before the trip, the singer didn’t have time to alter a Victoria Beckham dress she had ordered, prompting the designer to offer one straight from her own wardrobe.
Speaking to British Vogue, Beckham revealed she only learned about the wedding while having dinner with Chisholm.
“I was actually having dinner with Melanie and asked her what she was up to,” Beckham said. “She very casually told me she was leaving for Australia in two days and getting married.”
The designer lent Chisholm the same lace-trimmed ivory slip dress she had worn to Edward Enninful’s wedding in 2022. Featuring a soft V-neckline, delicate straps, a low back and lace detailing, the minimalist silhouette echoed the effortless ’90s style both women helped make iconic.
“There’s just something about her clothes,” Chisholm said of Beckham’s designs. “They have a real simplicity, especially the slip dresses. They’re really feminine, but in a way that feels comfortable, and very me.”
For the UK celebration, Beckham created a bespoke version of the look, adding hand-dyed lace across the bodice and skirt along with a flowing train requested by Chisholm’s 17-year-old daughter, Scarlet. The fitted gown highlighted the singer’s athletic frame while keeping the understated elegance that has become a hallmark of Beckham’s label.
The wedding also brought together much of the Spice Girls, with Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell-Horner attending the celebrations in the Lake District. Beckham was unable to make the ceremony in person, but her designs played a starring role throughout the weekend.
Chisholm completed her bridal look with Victoria Beckham’s champagne satin Harlow heels and a matching Dorian clutch, while carrying a simple bouquet of wildflowers. Dingwall wore a tailored Zegna suit.
Never one to spend all night in formalwear, Mel C later swapped the gown for wide-leg champagne trousers and a white sports bra for the reception.
The couple met on the dating app Raya, had their first date in Australia in 2023, and became engaged in Mallorca last summer before tying the knot this year.
