Alix Earle has apparently made it through 25 years on earth without reading a book.
The influencer made the admission during a rapid-fire Q&A with Interview editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg, posted to Instagram Monday. Asked the straightforward question—“What’s the last book you’ve read?”—Earle had a remarkably straightforward answer.
“I’ve never read a book.”
Then came the escape hatch.
“Like, maybe Dr. Seuss?”
That was enough to set the comments section on fire.

One commenter, apparently concerned about the state of civilization, wrote: “PSA during this literacy crisis: READING MAKES YOU HOT AND COOL.”
Another asked why anyone should be listening to Earle at all if she had never made it through a book.
Others went straight for the school-curriculum angle, wondering whether she had somehow escaped the traditional ninth-grade encounter with To Kill a Mockingbird.
There were also defenders. One fan praised Earle’s candor, calling her “funny and also magnetic asf” and admitting they simply couldn’t look away.
That, in a nutshell, is the Earle phenomenon. She says something outrageous, the internet objects, and everyone keeps watching.

The Q&A moved on to another piece of modern etiquette: whether arriving at a job interview with an iced coffee is unprofessional. Earle saw no problem with it, delivering her verdict while drinking an iced beverage herself.
“I guess that’s a Gen Z problem,” she said.
She was similarly slippery when asked whether she would ever get back together with an ex. Her initial answer was no. Then Ottenberg asked, “What was the last lie you’ve told?”
“Probably that …” Earle began, before laughing and adding, “I’m kidding.”
The joke has some context.
Earle struggled publicly with her December 2025 breakup from NFL player Braxton Berrios after two years together. Her Netflix reality series, Earle Meets World, later showed that the split wasn’t quite as final as it first appeared.
In the series, Earle attempts to find out whether there is any possibility of getting back together with Berrios, calling him and asking if their relationship might have another chapter.
Berrios, who never appears on screen, responds with two words:
“Oh, Alix.”
Then the season ends.
No resolution. No tidy Hollywood ending. Just the kind of cliffhanger reality television has been selling since people figured out that watching other people’s romantic disasters was cheaper than fixing their own.
And somewhere in the middle of all this, Alix Earle still hasn’t read a book.
