The British version of Saturday Night Live took aim at the controversy surrounding Shane Gillis’s recent appearance on the American show. “Last week on ‘SNL,’ comedian Shane Gillis also caused controversy by dropping the F-bomb,” she said, before delivering an expletive-laden insult that drew laughs from the audience.
Gillis, 38, hosted the US show on October 10. During his opening monologue, the Tires star complained that he had not been to the gym in some time before criticising women who wear revealing workout clothes, saying they “dressed like whores now”.

The remarks quickly triggered backlash online, with several celebrities weighing in. Dan Levy, the Schitt’s Creek star, was among the most vocal critics, arguing in an Instagram Reel that women wearing short shorts to the gym did not justify the derogatory label.
Levy also questioned how the comments had made it onto a live national broadcast, pointing out that men regularly wear revealing clothing at the gym without attracting the same criticism.
Gillis also used an F-bomb during a Dr. Seuss sketch in the episode and apologised for the slip towards the end of the broadcast. However, he has not publicly addressed the wider criticism of his remarks about women’s workout attire.
A representative for Gillis declined to comment when approached by Page Six.
With its latest jab, SNL UK has made clear where it stands on the controversy, using the American show’s own live-TV mishaps as material for a punchline of its own.
