Isla Fisher is back in the dating game more than two years after splitting from Sacha Baron Cohen, and she has already discovered that attraction can disappear in spectacularly stupid circumstances.
The Now You See Me actress, 50, revealed that a man she was dating managed to give her the dreaded “ick” after chasing his runaway dog in a particularly unusual fashion.
“His dog ran away and he chased his dog, but instead of chasing upright, he ran low with his hands outstretched – like a cartoon,” Fisher said on Overheard Happy Hour, appearing alongside her Spa Weekend co-stars.
“By the time he caught the dog, he had lost the p—y.”
Her co-stars were visibly stunned, with Anna Faris looking particularly horrified by Fisher’s confession.
The problem, Fisher explained, was not the man’s dedication to rescuing his dog. It was the way he went about it. She had genuinely liked him, but watching him sprint after the animal on all fours was enough to permanently change the way she saw him.
It is the first time Fisher has publicly offered much of a glimpse into her dating life since the end of her 14-year marriage to Baron Cohen.
The former couple announced their separation in April 2024, revealing that they had jointly filed for divorce the previous year.
“After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down,” they said in statements posted to Instagram.
Their divorce was finalised in June 2025. Fisher and Baron Cohen continue to co-parent their three children, Olive, 18, Elula, 16, and Montgomery, 11, and have largely remained amicable in public.
Baron Cohen even paid tribute to Fisher on Instagram in February for her 50th birthday, describing her as “the funniest, most joyful person, a brilliant talent, and a fantastic mum”.
Behind the scenes, however, starting over has been more complicated.
Fisher previously admitted that leaving the Sydney home she shared with Baron Cohen and moving to London was an emotional experience. When the furniture arrived at her new home, she broke down in tears.
“I definitely feel like there’s something about the divorce club that anyone in it understands in a way other people don’t. It’s a different grief,” she told New Beauty Magazine last year.
Still, Fisher has found some positives in rebuilding her life, including dating again and spending more time understanding herself.
“There are lots of positives that have come about from all this, like self-exploration and just trying to be kind to myself.”
And apparently, learning exactly how quickly a man can lose his appeal by chasing a dog like a cartoon character is part of that education.
