Kendall Jenner arrived at the Venice Film Festival looking like she had raided the Armani archives — which, more or less, is exactly what happened.
The 30-year-old supermodel made her Venice red-carpet debut in a shimmering gold Giorgio Armani gown from the house’s Fall 1995 collection, the same year she was born. Covered in intricate beading and floral detailing, the vintage dress gave Jenner a distinctly ’90s silhouette without looking trapped in the decade.
She kept everything else deliberately quiet. Diamond earrings by Briony Raymond and nude Aquazzura heels were the only major additions, with no necklace, bracelet or rings competing with the dress. Neutral makeup and a sharp zig-zag part completed the look, taking the ’90s reference all the way down to the hair.
“I’m excited to throw my dress on and go do the carpet later,” Jenner told Vogue ahead of her appearance.
The Armani connection runs deeper than the dress. Earlier this year, Jenner became the face of Emporio Armani’s Power of You fragrance, continuing her relationship with the Italian fashion house.
“I love working with Armani,” she said. “They are so sweet, and everything is always just so fun and easy.”
Jenner made her debut at the premiere of Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine, joining a cast that includes John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits and Parker Posey on the red carpet.
The appearance also marked Jenner’s first red carpet since the Met Gala in May. She has spent much of the summer travelling with her boyfriend, actor Jacob Elordi, before turning up in Venice for the festival.
And Jenner was hardly the only celebrity making a case for vintage fashion on the Lido.
Sydney Sweeney arrived earlier in the festival wearing an ivory strapless Chanel dress from Karl Lagerfeld’s Spring 1987 collection, while Amal Clooney brought serious firepower of her own with $375,000 worth of diamond jewellery paired with a custom black gown by Haider Ackermann for Tom Ford.
Venice, it seems, remains a place where the old rules of glamour still work — provided you know which archive to open.
