Mia Khalifa is celebrating a World Cup final payday most people could only dream about after banking an estimated £1.2 million ($1.6 million) from a huge wager on Spain to beat Argentina.
The former adult star, who was at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for the final, shared the winning moment with her 28.8 million Instagram followers, posting photos from the match alongside a screenshot of the eye-watering bet.
“Believed and won big. So proud of my home country Spain (not a drop of Spanish blood in me),” she wrote.
The real headline, however, was the stake. Khalifa placed $1 million on Spain to lift the trophy at odds of 1.65, turning it into a $1.65 million return after the Spaniards edged Argentina 1-0 following extra time.
Ferran Torres proved the hero, firing home the decisive goal to seal Spain’s victory and, in the process, one of the biggest celebrity betting wins of the tournament.
It wasn’t exactly a surprise where Khalifa’s loyalties lay. Earlier in the competition, the Lebanon-born media personality made it clear she was happy to back anyone capable of stopping Lionel Messi and Argentina, posting on social media: “Just know I was prepared to root against Argentina no matter what today.”
