Hailey Bieber Opens Up About Lonely Battle With PMDD After Welcoming Son Jack Blues

Hailey Bieber has spoken candidly about her battle with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), revealing that the condition left her feeling isolated following the birth of her son, Jack Blues.

The Rhode founder, 29, discussed her diagnosis in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, explaining that there is still a significant lack of awareness and research surrounding the condition. PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome that can trigger intense mood swings, anxiety, depression, irritability and feelings of hopelessness.

“After I had my son, I struggled with [PMDD] a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,” Bieber said.

She believes speaking openly about the experience has helped her feel less alone, particularly when other women share similar struggles. “Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone,” she explained, adding that being able to identify with others can make what is often a lonely experience easier to navigate.

Motherhood also sharpened Bieber’s interest in women’s health. She said the experience of pregnancy and childbirth opened her eyes to just how much women go through, often without sufficient information or support.

Bieber and husband Justin Bieber welcomed their son in August 2024. She first revealed her PMDD diagnosis during an appearance on the SHE MD Podcast in May, describing symptoms that affected her professional commitments, relationships and social life. “For me, it felt like the week before my period was not just ‘PMS’,” she said. “It felt extreme mentally. Like, ‘Why does it feel like my whole entire life is going to end?’”

She also warned that the condition can be dangerous and deserves to be taken seriously.

Bieber is far from the only public figure to have discussed PMDD. Singer Zara Larsson, actress Lili Reinhart and influencer Dixie D’Amelio have all spoken about their experiences. D’Amelio previously described the impact on her mental health during the third-season premiere of The D’Amelio Show in September 2023, explaining that her symptoms included severe anxiety, anger and losing the will to live.

More recently, Reinhart discussed her diagnosis on the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast in November 2025. She said she discovered she had severe PMDD after coming off antidepressants and birth control, revealing that the week before her period could leave her feeling suicidal.

Their experiences highlight a condition that remains poorly understood, despite its potentially devastating impact on everyday life. For Bieber, bringing the conversation into the open is an important first step towards ensuring women no longer have to navigate it alone.
