Lauren Alexis Reveals How Her Grandmother’s Cruel Predictions Fueled Her Six-Figure Social Media Career

Lauren Alexis has turned family rejection into serious money. The influencer, who boasts more than two million Instagram followers and 1.7 million YouTube subscribers, has revealed how her grandmother disowned her career ambitions, predicting she would end up broke, pregnant and begging the family for financial help. Instead, the 27-year-old built a lucrative online business and achieved the financial independence her grandmother never believed possible.

The rift began when Lauren decided against university and a conventional professional career. Growing up in a family dominated by healthcare and public service, expectations were firmly established. Her grandmother was a psychologist, her aunt a psychiatrist, while other relatives worked in nursing, the military and care services. Lauren initially shared an interest in medicine and biology, but eventually decided that social media was where she wanted to make her living.

Her grandmother wasn’t impressed. Lauren recalled being told she would become pregnant at 16, run out of money and eventually return to the family asking for help. She was also compared unfavourably with her brother, sister and cousins, with her grandmother allegedly telling her: “You’re never going to do this family proud.”

According to Lauren, the relationship deteriorated after she rejected the traditional career path. Attempts to reconnect were repeatedly met with suspicion, including one occasion when her grandmother responded to an invitation for coffee by asking what she wanted. Eventually, Lauren stopped reaching out altogether.

A chance reunion, arranged through her mother after four or five years apart, did little to repair the damage. When Lauren offered to pay for their coffees, her grandmother accused her of showing off. Their most recent encounter was even more uncomfortable. Lauren says her grandmother immediately asked whether she was pregnant, before warning that having a baby would ruin her figure and leave her body permanently changed.

The comments were upsetting, but Lauren believes the criticism helped fuel her ambition. She also suspects her grandmother struggles to accept that financial success can come from outside conventional employment, particularly when younger family members refuse to follow the path she had mapped out for them.

Her mother, meanwhile, took a very different approach. Initially sceptical about social media as a career, she became supportive within months and has even helped Lauren shop for lingerie for her online content, including OnlyFans projects. For her mother, it is simply work.

Lauren says the freedom, financial security and opportunities her career has provided have made her happier. She hasn’t ruled out reconciliation with her grandmother, although she believes marriage and motherhood might be the only traditional milestones capable of winning her approval. Until then, she’s sticking with the career that proved the family predictions wrong.
