For Julia and Lauren Burch, building careers online has been a shared experience from the beginning. The identical twins, who were born just five minutes apart, now work together creating digital content and have built sizeable audiences across social media and OnlyFans. Their mother has been there throughout, supporting their decisions and even occasionally stepping in behind the camera.
The sisters grew up being homeschooled alongside their older brother by their single mother. Both describe themselves as painfully shy when they were younger, making their eventual careers in modelling and social media something of a departure from their childhood personalities.
Julia, who has around two million Instagram followers, initially hoped to pursue traditional modelling and looked to Bella Hadid as an inspiration. At 5ft 3in, however, she was repeatedly told she was too short for the industry. Social media offered another route, and her mother encouraged her from the outset.
“She was so encouraging, complimenting all my photos,” Julia said. Her mother also helps with some of their photography and filming, while the twins say she has become familiar with the angles that work best for their content.
As their online profiles grew, both sisters eventually joined OnlyFans. Lauren, who has around 1.9 million Instagram followers, said she initially kept the platform hidden from friends but never felt she needed to conceal it from her mother.
She eventually blocked friends and people from her hometown from seeing her social media stories, worried about being judged. Those concerns proved largely unfounded, with friends eventually discovering what she was doing and reacting positively.
Their mother has also appeared in their content, including TikToks and Lauren’s YouTube channel, where she has discussed some of the unusual direct messages her daughter receives.
For the twins, that support has helped build the confidence they now bring to their work. Julia believes parents should distinguish between protecting their children and trying to control their decisions, arguing that genuine support sometimes means accepting choices they might not personally make.
But Lauren says there is one person whose opinion ultimately matters even more than their mother’s: her sister.
The twins’ careers may be closely linked, but so is their trust in each other. For Lauren, having Julia beside her provides the reassurance to keep doing what she does, regardless of how others respond.
“If everyone hates me, if I have Julia by my side, that’s all I need,” she said.
