Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she once confronted a film crew after discovering that people who had not been approved to attend were present while she was filming a nude scene. The Oscar-winning actress said the incident reinforced her belief that performers need to speak up on set, particularly when it comes to protecting younger actors who may feel pressured to stay silent.
Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Lawrence discussed how her approach to the industry has changed over the course of her career. Working with director Lynne Ramsay on Die My Love, she explained, means being prepared to make significant physical changes for a role, from cutting her hair to going platinum blonde. But being flexible as an actor doesn’t mean accepting every situation without question.

“There was an instance on set where crew members who were not approved when I was doing nudity were on set. I came down hard on it,” Lawrence said. She explained that her objection went beyond her own comfort, pointing to the position of an inexperienced 18-year-old actor who might worry that challenging the situation would earn them a reputation for being difficult. That performer, she argued, should not have to choose between speaking up and allowing people they don’t feel comfortable with to see them naked.
Lawrence has also discussed the boundaries around intimate scenes while promoting Die My Love, in which she stars opposite Robert Pattinson. Last year, she addressed the production’s approach to intimacy coordination on the Las Culturistas podcast, explaining that she felt safe working with Pattinson. She described him as respectful and said their conversations tended to revolve around their children and relationships. She also noted that some male actors can react badly to rejection, making the experience of working on intimate material more complicated for their co-stars.

As for the nudity itself, Lawrence said she was comfortable with it and wanted Ramsay to have as much artistic freedom as possible. Pregnancy also changed her relationship with her appearance during filming. Before No Hard Feelings, she recalled dieting, cutting carbohydrates and exercising, but while working on Die My Love, she was pregnant and putting in 15-hour days. When the production asked whether a close-up showing her cellulite should be retouched, her response was straightforward: “No. That’s an ass.”
Lawrence’s comments underline a distinction that remains important in film production: an actor’s willingness to appear nude does not mean everyone should have unrestricted access to the set. For Lawrence, speaking up about that boundary was as much about the next generation of performers as it was about her own experience.
