Emmerdale star Patsy Kensit is charging fans £60 for signed photographs at a retro TV festival, years after revealing that a disastrous investment left her facing financial ruin.
The actress, 58, is appearing at For The Love Of Retro at Telford International Centre, where fans can meet stars from classic television and film, have photographs taken and get memorabilia signed. Kensit has been offering autographs and photographs for £30 each, although the booking link on the Ticket Quarter website currently appears to be unavailable.
The event comes as Kensit prepares to return to Emmerdale as Sadie King, the character she originally played between 2004 and 2006. Her comeback will form part of a new dramatic storyline on the ITV soap.
Kensit has previously spoken candidly about the financial crisis that forced her to rebuild her life from scratch. Despite a successful career that began in childhood and later took her to Hollywood, the actress said she lost her home, pensions and other assets following a bad investment around a decade ago.
Speaking to Davina McCall on the Begin Again podcast, Kensit said: “Then I entered into a corporate thing and I lost, this is 10 years ago, I lost everything. Lost my home. And so I’m having to start from scratch.”
Kensit was a major celebrity during the 1990s, when she was married to Oasis guitarist Liam Gallagher and lived in Primrose Hill. Her acting career also included a role alongside Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon 2.
Now, as she returns to one of her best-known television roles, the actress is also making money directly from her fanbase through personal appearances and signed memorabilia.
For Kensit, the retro festival appearance offers a reminder of a career that has stretched from child stardom and Hollywood films to one of British television’s most recognisable soaps — and back again.
