Cara Delevingne has spoken openly about a period of heavy drug use that she says ultimately led to serious health scares and a turning point in her sobriety.
In a candid appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, the 33-year-old actress and model revealed she was using the party drug GHB on a daily basis before suffering seizures that forced her to confront the extent of her addiction.
Delevingne described a cycle of substance use that included taking GHB to “knock herself out” and using cocaine to stay awake, a combination she says spiralled during a period of emotional turmoil.

She said she had originally believed she could stop after her 30th birthday, but quickly realised the situation was more medically serious than she understood.
“I didn’t know how addictive that stuff was,” she said. “I just thought I took it every day. I didn’t know that you really had to like medically detox from it. And I started having seizures.”
Delevingne linked the widely circulated 2022 Burning Man photos — which sparked concern about her wellbeing — to a seizure she had shortly beforehand, saying the images captured her at one of her lowest points.
The former Suicide Squad star said her drug use initially began as a way of coping with deeper emotional struggles and a desire for connection, but eventually became isolating.

“I knew it was bad when I started doing them alone,” she said. “And how much I liked that… I could disappear. And that — I knew it was a problem.”
Despite continuing to work and maintain a high-profile career in fashion and film, Delevingne said her private life was deteriorating significantly during the same period.
“When you’re successful and when you seem you are doing great… people make excuses,” she said. “The damage was really being done alone because that’s where no one could stop me.”
She also spoke about experiencing suicidal thoughts during the height of her fame, saying that external success masked her internal decline.
“I was at my height of fame, when I should have been the most happy,” she said. “And I felt the most guilty… and I was so close to ending my life.”
Now sober, Delevingne says she is in a different place and has chosen to speak publicly about the specifics of her addiction in the hope of breaking stigma around substances she says are rarely discussed openly.
