Bringing the worlds of politics and adult entertainment into even closer orbit, former porn star Amaranta Hank has officially been sworn in as a senator in Colombia after winning election on a platform calling for greater rights and legal protections for workers in the country’s adult industry.
Known off-camera as Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, the former adult performer will represent the Norte de Santander region as part of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition during the 2026–2030 parliamentary term. Her arrival in the Senate has already become one of the most talked-about political stories in Colombia this year.
According to Colombian media, Omaña secured her seat after placing 23rd on the Historic Pact’s closed party list in the March elections. The coalition emerged as the country’s largest political force, taking 22.72 per cent of the Senate vote. More than 4.4 million ballots translated into 25 seats, according to figures released by Colombia’s National Registry.
Long before she became a familiar name in adult entertainment, Omaña worked as a journalist. She has consistently argued that her career in pornography should not disqualify her from public office, insisting that women who have worked in the sex industry deserve the same respect and opportunities as anyone else.
Facing criticism over her election, she has refused to back away from that position. In a TikTok video addressing detractors, she asked: “Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?”
While her past has inevitably dominated headlines, Omaña says her priorities in office extend well beyond the adult industry. Her legislative agenda includes improving access to mental health services, tackling sexual abuse and promoting greater social inclusion, alongside advocating for stronger legal protections for people working in Colombia’s sexual economy.
Her election follows another controversial step into public life earlier this year, when she and fellow former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián were appointed to deputy ministerial positions within President Gustavo Petro’s Ministry of Equality. The appointments sparked fierce public debate, but Omaña’s elevation to the Senate represents a far bigger political milestone, placing one of the adult industry’s best-known former stars at the heart of Colombia’s national legislature.
