OnlyFans Creators Criticise ‘Euphoria’ Over Cassie Storyline, Calling It “Beyond Troubling”

OnlyFans creators have pushed back against HBO’s Euphoria, criticising recent storyline choices in the show’s final season that centre on Sydney Sweeney’s character Cassie and her attempt to become an adult content creator.

According to Variety, multiple creators on the platform have taken issue with how the show depicts OnlyFans-style content, arguing that it misrepresents both the platform’s rules and the realities of the industry.

The storyline in question shows Cassie exploring adult content creation, including scenes that online creators say cross platform boundaries. Critics pointed specifically to sequences involving costume-based roleplay, which they say do not reflect permitted content on OnlyFans.

“There’s just a lot that’s ridiculous and cartoonish about it,” one long-time creator told Variety. “There’s so much that they have her doing that is not even allowed on OnlyFans, and that alone is infuriating: the age-play stuff where she’s dressed as a baby in a diaper, for example. Credit card processors have very strict rules that you have to abide by, and the rules are getting stricter all the time.”

Maitland Ward, an adult content creator and former Boy Meets World actress, also criticised the portrayal, arguing it reinforces harmful stereotypes about sex work.

“In the climate we’re in, that they dressed her up as a baby to make pornographic OnlyFans content was beyond troubling and again serves to perpetuate stereotypes that sex workers have no moral compass and that they will do anything for money,” Ward said. “And there’s always this untrue stigma that somehow sex work is synonymous with sex trafficking and abuse. And they just said, let’s make a joke of it. That is so funny. I’m not laughing.”

The comments add to ongoing debate around Euphoria’s final season, which has continued to divide viewers as it pushes further into darker and more controversial storylines.

While HBO has not responded publicly to the criticism, the reaction highlights a growing tension between scripted portrayals of the creator economy and the people working within it, particularly as platforms like OnlyFans continue to expand into mainstream culture.
