Ariana Grande is preparing to disappear from the public eye for a while, and according to people close to the singer, the decision has less to do with one dramatic event than years of pressure finally catching up with her.
Grande is due to complete her Eternal Sunshine tour on September 1, after which she plans to take what her representative described as a “much-deserved break” from public-facing work and appearances. The announcement came as the singer has faced another round of online commentary about her appearance and weight, particularly following the release of her “Petal” music video.

Several sources told Page Six that Grande has enjoyed being back on stage and has been in a good place during the tour, but the constant attention has taken its toll. One insider described her as overworked after years of moving from one project to another, while another said the relentless scrutiny surrounding her personal life and appearance was a bigger factor than her schedule.
“She’s been in a really good place on tour. She loves doing it and it’s been positive,” the second source said, while stressing that the nonstop public attention contributed to her decision to step away. Grande has never been particularly well served by the internet’s obsession with picking apart her appearance, and the latest criticism appears to have added another layer to an already crowded plate.

Her withdrawal also means leaving the upcoming West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George. Grande had been expected to star in the production next summer, but producers confirmed that she had decided to step back. According to an insider, the decision was not easy because Grande was genuinely excited about the project, but ultimately decided that taking time for herself was the right move.
There is no timetable for her return. Sources say Grande intends to spend time with family and friends and avoid putting pressure on herself about what comes next. Her representative said she wants to finish the Eternal Sunshine tour “healthily and happily” before taking a break from the public-facing side of her career.
Grande’s decision is not being framed as a permanent retreat. It is a pause after several years of intense professional demands and constant public commentary. For now, she appears to be choosing a quieter life over another headline, and after everything she has taken on, that may be the most sensible move she has made in a while.
