Cristiano Ronaldo’s fiancée Georgina Rodríguez has had enough of the annual debate about her body.
The 32-year-old model and influencer addressed the criticism directly this week after posting a series of holiday photographs on Instagram, including several bikini shots that once again sent social media into familiar territory: strangers deciding what a woman should look like.
Rodríguez responded with a lengthy message about ageing, motherhood, exercise and the increasingly strange expectation that women should somehow remain frozen in one version of themselves.
“My body will change, just as all women’s bodies do. And I hope it continues to do so for many years, because that will mean I am still living,” she wrote, according to Instagram’s English translation.
The post came after Rodríguez said comments about her appearance had begun to get under her skin.
“Where is the standard? Who decides what the ‘right’ body is?” she asked. “Do we really still think happiness has a size?”
Rodríguez, who shares five children with Ronaldo, said she continues to exercise because she enjoys it and is passionate about it, rather than because she feels obliged to satisfy an online audience.
There is also a recurring element to the criticism.
“Every year my body is news again,” she wrote, noting that discussions about her figure seem to return every summer.
For Rodríguez, the issue has become particularly important because she is raising three daughters. She said she wants to teach them that a person’s value cannot be determined by their appearance or by the opinions of strangers.
“The value of a person can never depend on a physicist or on the opinion of strangers,” she wrote.
She also admitted that practising what she preaches isn’t always easy.
Rodríguez recalled speaking to Ronaldo after telling him she was worried about people calling her fat because, in her words, she “lives in my image”.
His response was considerably less philosophical.
“You don’t live by your image,” Ronaldo told her. “You live by what you are. A perfect woman. Beautiful, with a great body, mother, good person, successful and living life with love. What the hell else do you want?”
The Al-Nassr captain then offered his own explanation for the criticism.
“It’s normal for them to envy you,” he told her.
Whether jealousy is responsible for every comment is another question, but Rodríguez clearly isn’t interested in allowing strangers to dictate how she feels about herself.
The I Am Georgina star finished her message by making her position clear: she likes her body as it is, including the curves that seem to become an annual subject of public discussion.
“I love my curves,” she wrote. “I love the freedom to live in the body I choose.”
For Rodríguez, that body is not a static image to be maintained for Instagram. It is the body that has carried her through motherhood, work, relationships, success and the rest of a very public life.
And apparently, it doesn’t require the internet’s approval.
